As I said in the first volume of Zombie Mods for PC Gamers, the advantage of playing games on PC is the ability to modify many of the games (for those who have the talent for that). The majority of us non-programmers can just reap the benefit of the modding community’s work and download free mods to either improve a game, or change it entirely. In this volume we’ve got plenty more zombie mods for you, including what is one of the most hyped mods in recent history, DayZ. Once again, I haven’t played anywhere near all of these mods because I just don’t have that kind of time on my hands. So please, if you have any thoughts on these mods, or suggestions for other zombie mods for these games, please leave a comment!

Zombie Mods for ARMA 2: Combined Operations
What better way to kick this off than with the most hyped zombie mod in recent history? DayZ has attracted an uncanny buzz for its realistic approach to a zombie apocalypse. Rather than carelessly running around mowing down zombies with a chainsaw, you must focus on survival. Surviving the elements, finding food and water, staying warm, and all of this in the midst of an end of the world scenario. DayZ may well be the largest factor in the high sales of ARMA 2: Combined Operations, and it is certainly one hell of an achievement for a free mod.
Dynamic Zombie Sandbox
DZS allows you to survive a zombie apocalypse that you’ve setup to your liking. The host is given some 36 parameters to customize, ranging from weather to the intelligence of the zombies. So why settle for someone else’s zombie apocalypse? Make your own!
Zombie Mods for PC – Call of Duty 4
Reign of the Undead
Here’s a mod for Call of Duty 4, a series that has now become synonymous with zombies, that focuses less on mindless shooting and more on staying low and only taking on a few at a time. The author states that they designed it to focus more on survival horror, and says that you won’t survive an attack by a large horde. So for those looking more for the horror of zombies, check this one out.
Return of Zombie Ops
As opposed to reinventing what is already enjoyed by many, this mod looks to bring all of the options of the zombie modes of later CoD games to Call of Duty 4. It also looks to give a lot of customization to the server host so that they can customize the experience to their liking. So if you have Call of Duty 4 on your PC, bring in all the zombie modes of later games with this mod!
Zombie Mods for Garry’s Mod
Here’s a mod for Garry’s Mod that presents a standard zombies vs. humans game mode, but also with the added element of infection. There are no NPCs, but rather just a bunch of actual players as either humans or zombies. When a human is killed, they become a zombie, and the game continues until either the humans have completed a set goal, or the zombies take over. So for you multiplayer fanatics, this will make for a chaotic experience with a large group of people.
This game mode focuses on team based zombie survival that randomly generates zombie placement with each playthrough. For teamwork and gore, this looks to be a promising mod.
Zombie Mods for PC – Fallout 3
This is a simple mod for Fallout 3 that just adds hordes of feral ghouls to Arlington Cemetery (an otherwise deserted in-game location). It’s a great example of a mod that doesn’t change the entire feel of the game, but certainly adds some fun once you happen upon the cemetery. And judging from the picture below, you’d best bring your best weapons with you.
Nazi Zombie Wasteland Invasion
This mod is for those of you who have ever said to yourself, “self, Fallout 3 needs to be more ridiculous” or the less frequent “why doesn’t everything have Nazi zombies?!” The title really says it all, Nazi Zombie Wasteland Invasion just throws in a bunch of Nazi zombies everywhere. And you are their only enemy. Good luck.
Zombie Mods for PC – Fallout New Vegas
This is a full out zombie infection mod for Fallout New Vegas that focuses its efforts on heavily populated areas. So you can watch the horde grow as the infection spreads, and then you can run or fight for your life. There’s even a zombie killing challenge included that assigns a perk.
Siege of the Dead
Siege of the Dead attempts to give a ‘tower defense’ feel to New Vegas by allowing you to deploy troops in a three-floor building before defending it against hordes of ghouls. There’s is even a Lite version for those with a low-spec computer.
