ThanksKilling is the story of a murderous, immortal turkey named Turkie. The plot is as simple and ridiculous as that. It opens immediately after the first Thanksgiving, where Turkie is chasing a pilgrim, played by Wanda Lust…of course. It then fast forwards to present day where a group of kids come across our psychopathic poultry during a vacation. ThanksKilling is intentionally absurd, crude, and excessive. But most importantly, it is one of the very few horror films ever made that are exclusively and entirely about Thanksgiving.
A one word review would very easily sum this movie up: Stupid. On a stupidity scale of 1 to 10, ThanksKilling is approximately a 13. If you like stupid, then this film is right up your alley. Far more mind-numbing than any Ed Wood film, and with even worse acting. But don’t take that as a bad review. Cult horror fans know and love stupidity, which is exactly why this film has been classified as an instant cult hit. The gore and makeup effects are cheesy and over-the-top. The turkey puppet is obviously absurd. And the script is juvenile and hilarious.
Fans of Troma will certainly enjoy this film, as well as most fans of cult horror and horror comedy. One thing is guaranteed, you’ll have plenty of one-liners in your arsenal after viewing this movie. Running at just over an hour in length, it really is the perfect film to watch after Thanksgiving dinner.
