Blood Sucking Geek Has A New Face!

Blood Sucking Geek has made quite a few changes recently

For those of you who haven’t yet been to the new and improved Blood Sucking Geek site, we have recently made the switch from a Blogger blog to a full self-hosted WordPress site. With this switch I have been able to add many new features that weren’t possible before. So I’ll attempt to give a quick rundown of the features.

New Layout

As you have noticed, the entire layout and design is new. So please take some time to look around, and ask if you have any questions.

Social Capabilities

Anyone can now become a member of bloodsuckinggeek.com. You can create a profile, post status updates, and interact with other members through activity streams, private messages, and friendship requests.

Groups and Group Forums

~~Once a member, you can join groups and participate in their individual group discussions. If you don’t find a group that you want to join, create your own and invite your friends.~~

Points and Awards

Get rewarded for participating around the Blood Sucking Geek with points and awards. You can earn points for commenting, forum posts, and other participation, plus a bonus for each award. The points have no monetary value, and their is no prize system (unless we find a sponsor??) but it all certainly makes for some nerdy fun! You will also rank up with point level, and I am coming up with creative ranks as we speak (500 points makes you a Ghoul, 1500 points makes you a Zombie).

Contests

I will be putting up the Blood Sucking Geek’s first contest in the next few days, and we hope to see more in the future!

The Vision

All in all I had the desire to make Blood Sucking Geek more than just a blog for me to share my opinions. I would like to create a go to for horror fans that are tired of the same old big-budget crap that we’re being flooded with these days! So please feel free to share your comments, thoughts, ideas, interests, and just about anything. Thanks readers!

I’m already beginning to get a little irritated with the limitations of Blogger, and their support is almost nonexistant. You’ve been able to do great things here with WordPress. I constantly have to alter html (which I’m not very good at) and go trolling the internet for widgets. Blogger’s search widget has been broken since I got there, and Template updates have been broken for a month. Did you jump to WordPress when Blogger changed up their format?

  I’m not sure when Blogger changed their format, but I switched to WordPress early May just because of the frustrations that you’re talking about. I was tired of the limitations and having to swim through code to add anything above and beyond the standard.
  
  I certainly recommend WordPress, but you can go one of two routes. WordPress.com is like Blogger, it’s free hosting but there are limitations (although I’m not experienced with it I’m sure it’s less limitations than Blogger though). WordPress.org is the self-hosted version so you have to have hosting setup through a hosting company (I’m with GoDaddy). There is a lot more freedom to it, but there is the expense of hosting plus the technical know-how required to maintain it.
